a  Simple  Poem   for   a  Special  Person

D  A  D

Thank You, Dad, for always being the person that you’ve been,

No changes would I make, if we had to do it again;

Its not that more perfect was our home above all the rest,

But of all in the world, I sure loved our family best.

There would be those who felt that children there were too many,

With fewer kids, money and things may have been more plenty;

And I’m sure that others may have felt more time should you spared,

More time spent with each one, if so much time wasn’t so shared.

But what I remember, and carry with me to this day,

Is a home filled with love, and Dad who always found a way;

Somehow, someway, you would figure out how we could scrape by,

And there were still some times spent together, just you and I.

Oh sure, there were some times, when we all may have wished for more,

But I still don’t recall ever feeling that we were so poor;

I do know you struggled, and you worked hard to make ends meet,

But you always provided, we always had enough to eat.

Yet more than food and things, a greater gift you were giving,

You’ve been an example, for the lives we now are living;

So quiet yet so strong, we all observed the life you led,

And a lesson we learned, though seldom a word ever said.

‘Tis no coincidence, that we’ve all turned out just like you:

In each our marriages, to our spouse committed and true,

With hard work and effort, we each stay gainfully employed,

We share a love of God, and our lives are full and enjoyed.

So now a special day, together we celebrate,

A milestone in your age, we take time to commemorate;

We are thankful indeed, for the good health you have been blessed,

To enjoy this point in life, to which you have now progressed.

Many gifts we could bring, to show our love and affection,

But we hope what you see, is our lives as your reflection;

A great part you have played, in what all of us have become,

And now we thank you, Dad, for the great home we started from.

Love,  Dan
