Happily Ever After
“Happily ever after” hardly ever just happens;
Like many things in life, on participants it depends.
And, like many things in life that may cause our fates a quirk,
“Happily ever after” takes a little bit of work.
Love is a lot of things, but most of all it is respect;
You have to care enough, the other’s needs you can detect.
There must be willingness, to take the time, make the effort,
Because for each other, you should always be a support.
One can get complacent, it’s easy to take for granted,
To forget to take care of Love’s garden that you planted;
But, like a nice garden, whose growth can’t be left just to chance,
It does take some effort to keep alive your own romance.
What’s not always easy, are some changes to recognize;
Changes in the other to notice or to realize.
So there does come a time to re-assess or re-inspire,
A time to fan the sparks, so you can rekindle the fire.
Make a list of good points, as each are now, not as you were,
Support one another, help each others’ dreams to secure.
Know that what you love most, is often what you hate the worst;
Usually the same trait, just direction may be reversed.
Think of this as you get some time you can spend together;
A couple trips to take without children or the weather.
Find some ways to enjoy, to share some love and some laughter,
‘Cause with a lot of both comes “happily ever after.”
