Jim "JD" Davis Memorial

Where snow-capped mountains stand in awesome majesty,

A manageable pass there always seems to be;

Forged by swift streams flowing and plunging through steep falls,

Giving access through impassable mountain walls.

Likewise, troubles that in our life may seem to loom,

Relief does arrive like spring flowers taking bloom;

A seed of hope planted with ample load of care,

Nurtured and blessed by love of those with which we share.

Though grief and sorrow like mighty mountains might stand,

An attainable pass through also is at hand;

Built on many memories happily cherished,

With eternal confidence faithfully nourished.

The chasm appearing from one who’s departed,

Is bridged by loves that had already been started;

Bodies may die and to ashes and dust return,

But Love for eternity continues to burn.

So together we gather ‘cause JD is gone,

Suddenly, surprisingly, he went and passed on;

We don’t understand why and we’re shocked as to how,

And inside we wonder what the heck happens now?

For now we are saddened, our hearts painfully grieve,

In spite of assurance from our Faith we believe;

We know he’s better, no suffering does he feel,

But it’s still such a shock and it doesn’t seem real.

So now we seek understanding, how should we cope,

Answers to all our questions are for what we hope;

While we are all here so that we can say good bye,

In our troubled hearts we would still like to know why?

But now I must tell you that there is not a why,

For it’s not God’s choice that took him from you and I;

‘Twas simply the result of causes and effects,

From countless influences that our lives affects.

For at our birth there’s not an endowed guarantee,

That some ripe old age we’ll all get to live to be;

Many choices by others as well as our own,

Impact us in ways to make our future unknown.

Now, while the length of life God chooses not to set,

Two wonderful assurances we all do get;

First is that our lives can be mutually blessed,

By Love that is happily together expressed.

While some separation and loss today we feel,

The friendship and love of a lifetime are what’s real;

For it’s not months or years of which we’ve been deprived,

But that we were blessed a life-time with Love that thrived.

The second assurance is that Love does go on,

Far after these mortal bodies are dead and gone;

The friendship and Love that together we create,

Forever and for always will still escalate.

For now, we count our many blessings that have been,

And take comfort that it’s not If, but simply When,

Together with him we will be reunited,

In eternity where we’ve all been invited.

For these worn-out old bodies let us not despair,

And be glad his warm gentle spirit is still there;

We can be happy for now he’s gone on ahead,

And waits for us on the path where the Good Lord led.

“Cherish the precious memories from years gone by,

For they live on in our hearts and never will die;

Though separated now, don’t mourn excessively,

Time will pass and at last, we’ll share eternity.”*

Now, to you, JD, though your absence makes us sad,

That you are with the Good Lord we are indeed glad;

We take comfort that our hearts and thoughts you still share,

And we look forward to when we’ll join you up There.
